Juwan Howard was born in New York City on February 7, 1973. His given name is Juwan Antonio Howard. He was raised by his father, Leroy Watson, and his mother, Helena Howard.

The Washington Bullets selected him fifth overall in the first round of the 1994 NBA draft. He played for the Bullets for six and a half seasons, from 1994 to 2001. The Washington Bullets were renamed the Washington Wizards in 1997.

Howard went on to spend a year each with the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Orlando Magic.

He returned to the Dallas Mavericks in 2007, before joining the Denver Nuggets in 2008
