At the request of the New York Police Department, the names 22Gz, Sha EK, and Ron Suno were taken off the lineup. Rappers were not included because of their musical ties to the violent subgenre. The three-day event will take place at Citi Field in Queens on September 23, 2022.

Due to pressure from the NYPD, Rolling Loud has previously had to postpone appearances by New York drill rappers. Pop Smoke, Casanova, Sheff G, 22Gz, and Don Q were prohibited from performing in 2019 due to safety concerns.

Only one day before the Rolling Loud New York Festival, the announcement was made. 22Gz, one of the three drill rappers who had their names removed from the lineup, was imprisoned in June.

The rapper was charged with taking part in a shooting in March 2022. The other two rappers, Ron Suno and Sha Ek, don’t have any prior criminal histories, claim their attorneys.

“Sha Ek disagrees with the NYPD’s judgment. He hasn’t been charged with anything, so he can defend it. The police make an effort to connect his actions to violence and hatred. They are unaware that he is a 19-year-old musician and performer who is working to better himself and provide for his family.

Sha Ek has given performances all over the Northeast this year. Children of all ages attend his performances in droves, dancing and having a good time. He is eager to grow his traveling business and disprove the authorities.

At the Rolling Loud concert in New York last year, Ron Suno allegedly got into a fight. His manager, Diamond Brown, expressed doubt over the choice to cancel the Times interview. He questioned:

After putting forth so much effort, “How can a kid with no criminal record or gang affiliations—the youth never even wrote a diss song—be denied the chance to perform in his hometown?”

Drill rap: What precisely is it?

Hip-famous hop’s but divisive drill rap style first appeared on the streets of Chicago in the early 2010s. Rappers like Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Lil Reese, Fredo Santana, and Young Chop, among others, have helped make music popular in the United States for more than ten years.

Lyrics in drill music are frequently hostile, vulgar, and pessimistic. The songs are harsher in tone, with dissing and insulting lyrics that emphasize the violent side of gang life.

Drill rapper Jayquan McKenley, 18, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn earlier in February 2022. At the time, drill rap was criticized by NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who said it was partially to blame for the spike in gun violence. He called the connection between the subgenre and gun violence “alarming.”

The problem is that violent men employ drill rapping to reveal their victims and then incite the targets of their attacks.

The New York edition of Rolling Loud is scheduled for September 23–25, 2022. The event will be held in the NYC Stadium at Citi Field in Queens, New York. The festival’s headliners include Future, A$AP Rocky, and Nicki Minaj.
