Midge Ure, a fellow musician, remarked that she had sung “beautifully” in a tribute.

Dee Lewis Clay, her sibling, posted on social media that her “beloved, beautiful sister” had died peacefully at home and described the passing as “heartbreaking.”

Lewis was born Linda Ann Fredericks in West Ham and attended stage school before landing non-speaking roles in the 1961 British film A Taste of Honey and in the 1964 film A Hard Day’s Night as a screaming admirer.

She performed at the first Glastonbury Festival in 1970 and had four top-40 songs over the next decade as a self-taught guitarist and keyboard player.

Rock-A-Doodle-Doo reached number 15 in the United Kingdom in 1973, while It’s In His Kiss, a disco rendition of Merry Clayton’s The Shoop Shoop Song, reached number six in 1975.

Her collaborations with other artists include Cat Stevens, Joan Armatrading, and Jamiroquai. Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album features her background vocals.

Ure wrote on Twitter:

“Really sorry to hear this. My infatuation with Linda Lewis was intense.”

Not A Little Girl Anymore, the title track from her 1975 album, was an excellent composition that she sang beautifully.

Mike Scott, the lead singer of the Scottish band The Waterboys, remarked that he was “very sorry” to learn of Lewis’s passing and that she was “fantastic.”

Lewis appeared on the James Whale Unleashed program on TalkTV earlier this year and performed an acoustic version of Rock-A-Doodle-Doo.

Whale said he was “so saddened to hear” of her passing and praised her “brilliant” performance.
