Ric Ocasek was a singer, songwriter, musician, and painter from the United States. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 23, 1944. On September 15, 2019, the singer died. The singer was best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist for the rock band “The Cars.” The singer was born under the sign of Aries.
Formal education
Ric graduated from Maple Heights High School. He later went to Antioch College. In the same way, he enrolled at Bowling Green State University. He did, however, drop out of college to pursue a career in music.

Ric met future Benjamin Orr, the Car bassist in Cleveland, in 1965. Orr and his band, the Grasshoppers, appeared on the “Big 5 Show.” After a few years apart, Ric and Orr reconnected in Columbus, Ohio. In 1968, they formed a band called “ID Nirvana.” They began performing at and around Ohio State University.

Previously, Ric and Orr were members of several bands. After relocating to Boston, they formed “Milkwood,” a Crosby, Stills, and Nash-style folk-rock band with members from Ann Arbor and Michigan. They also aired an album called “How’s The Weather?” Ric also performed as an acoustic dup with Orr. Later, they formed the band Cap’s Swing with guitarist Elliot Easton. Then, due to a series of events, Ric fired the bassist and drummer. As a result, he formed a band that suited his writing style.
A Career in Automobiles
Ric established himself as a member of the Cars. From 1978 to 1988, he had a string of hit singles. The singer sang lead vocals and played lead vocalist on several notable songs. Later, he divided his writing with Orr and wrote about all of the Cars’ materials. Then, in 2010, Ric reunited with the original Cars members to record their debut album, “Move Like This.”

Ric was also known to be a successful producer. His production credits include “Green Album,” “Weezer’s Blue Album,” “Romeo Void,” “Bebe Buell,” and many more. Similarly, he produced The Pink Spiders’ 2006 album “Teenage Graffiti,” as well as a portion of the third “Motion City Soundtrack” album, “Even If It Kills Me.” Similarly, Ric released “Everything Will Be Alright in the End” and “For All My Sisters” in 2014.
Also, Ric made his solo debut in 1982 with his own single album. Ric also played every instrument in the Cars’ new wave rock sound. Later, Ric vanished from public view for a few years.
