Who is Shock G? 

Shock G was a rapper from the United States who was the primary vocalist for the hip hop group Digital Underground. Gregory Edward Jacobs’ real name was Gregory Edward Jacobs, although he was better known as Humpy Hump. He had a distinct style that was completely fresh to the world of hip-hop music from the start of his career. With his multiple on-stage characters, he confidently presented he alter ego. Many of his fans around the world were inspired by his free spirit and positive outlook on life.

Despite the challenges he endured at the start of his career, he never wavered from his commitment to artistic exploration. He was a brilliant thinker with a great sense of humor. Early Life and Bio

Gregory Edward Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 25, 1963, to Shirley Kraft and Edward Racker. Kent and Elizabeth were his two siblings. In 1975, he moved to Queens, New York, with his mother when his parents divorced. At the time, hip-hop music was still in its infancy, and he discovered his affinity for it.

His cousin Rene Negron and a close buddy Shah-T trained him in the skill when he purchased a pair of turntables. During this time, the latter advised Gregory Jacobs to adopt the alias Shah-G, which Jacobs misread for Shock-G and adopted. Shock-G dropped out of Chamberlain High School after returning to Tampa in 1978 to live with his father. Soon after, he founded the Master Blasters, a mobile DJ group that performed at parties.

Tony Stone, the director of the WTMP-FM program, took notice of the group and offered Jacobs, then 16, a job as a DJ on the station. He accepted the offer and went on to become Central Florida’s youngest radio personality with a regular time slot. Shock G was sacked from his position, though, for playing (Not Just) Knee Deep by Funkadelic in five minutes. Shock G fled home because of a disagreement with his father. He traveled across the United States, changing occupations along the way. He transitioned from DJ to keyboardist during this time. Shock G came home and received a diploma when he decided to pursue a career in music. Jim Burge and Patricia J. Trice taught him music theory and piano at Hillsborough Community College.

• Shock G’s career began when he eloped to Los Angeles in 1985 in search of better prospects, where he joined Kenny McCloud’s pop-punk band Onyx.
• In 1987, Shock G, Kenneth Waters, and Chopmaster J formed the trio Digital Underground after relocating to Oakland.
• Shock G wrote, performed, and produced the songs Your Life’s a Cartoon and Underwater Rimes, which were released as a twelve-inch single on Macola Record in 1988. He also drew the comic pictures that appeared on the cover.
• Shock G employed a variety of identities during his career, resulting in realistic personas. Many fans and even industry insiders, on the other hand, mistook them for separate people.
• He enjoyed appearing on television shows. He featured on Showtime at the Apollo, The Arsenio Hall Show, MTV Spring Break, Yo MTV Raps, Club MTV Live, and MTV Jams as a result of this.
• In an episode of the popular sitcom Drexell’s Class from 1991, he played a furnace repairman.
