JuVaughn Krishna Harrison was born on April 30, 1999, in Huntsville, Alabama to Jamaican parents who chose a different route. Harrison’s mother is Georgia Harrison, and both of his parents excelled in track and field events rather than jumping competitions. His younger brother, Ky-Mani Harrison, is a sports administration major at LSU. His mother was an Alabama A&M track athlete who was inducted into the Alabama A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
JuVaughn graduated from Louisiana State University after attending Columbia High School. Harrison is one of the best high jump prospects in the United States for the Class of 2017, having cleared seven feet four times during his senior year at Columbia High School.
He was declared the 2017 New Balance Indoor Nationals Silver Medalist in the high jump at The Armory in New York, achieving an indoor personal best of 7 feet, 0 14 inches. He was named the nation’s No. 1 high jumper in the Class of 2017 for the 2017 indoor season. During his final year indoors, he also tied for second place in the United States across all classifications. He was an eight-time state champion during his prep career at Columbia High School in Alabama. He was voted AL.com Huntsville Region Boys Athlete of the Year and Huntsville Metro Coaches Association Track & Field Athlete of the Year for the 2016-17 academic year. Harrison appeared in 32 games for LSU during his undergraduate career. He won 25 of them and never finished lower than fourth in any of them, including the NCAA outdoor finals, where he swept the long and high jump titles. He’s the favorite to win the Bowerman Trophy, given to the best track and field athlete in the NCAA. He finished fifth in the SEC Championships with a time of 25′ 3.50′′. Harrison won the long jump in the Tyson Invitational (25′ 7.50′′) and the UAB Vulcan Invitational (25′ 8.25′′). He became the first man in NCAA history to win both the long jump and the high jump at the NCAA Championships, clearing a bar of 7′ 5.25′′ in the high leap to claim the NCAA title.
He won gold in the long jump in the Miami Hurricane Invitational with a leap of 26′ 9.75′′. Aside from that, in the SEC Championships, he earned his third career SEC title in the high jump with a clearance of 7′ 5′′ (2.26 meters). She swept the titles at the Tyson Invitational with personal bests in the long jump and high jump. Professional Development
On March 12, 2021, at the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he establishes a personal record in the high jump with 2.30 m. He set a new record in the long jump with 8.45 meters, which is also the best mark in 2021. As a result of this, he became the first guy in NCAA history to jump more than 8.40 meters. In addition, he cleared 2.30 meters in the high jump.
This feat is reminiscent of Jesse Owens’ “Day of Days,” when he established four world records in a matter of hours on May 25, 1935. On June 27, 2021, he won the long jump and the high jump in the US National Team Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. He is currently competing in both events at the 2020 Summer Olympics, making him the first American male to do so since Jim Thorpe in 1912, who participated in both the long jump and the high jump.
