Declan Farmer is an American figure who competes in paralympic winter sports and plays ice sled hockey professionally. He has competed in three Paralympics (including the most recent one in 2022) and has won gold medals in the previous two. He won a gold medal in the men’s ice sled hockey tournament at the 2013 Winter Paralympics. Declan Farmer is a bilateral amputee who has committed his life to athletics and paralympic activities since the age of nine, after witnessing their success in Clearwater, Florida.

Declan has been serving in two elected volunteer positions in addition to his preparation for the Paralympics. Back in 2020, he was appointed as the Paralympic General Team Representative, with the responsibility of protecting the rights and interests of current and former sled hockey competitors who are wheelchaired or impaired. Declan was elected to the USA Hockey Congress for the position of Athletic Director later in 2021, and he has been working for the country and its representation at the Olympics, Paralympics, and other World Championships.
Rise to Fame
Declan also worked as a community hockey intern for the Tampa Bay Lightning from June to September 2018. His job as a community hockey intern was to provide coaching and mentorship to young athletes aged 5 to 15. Later in June 2019, he joined community hockey as a coach and mentor, with a similar job to the previous one, namely mentoring and coaching young athletes. Declan had planned to pursue a career in wrestling, tee-ball, and soccer before deciding to try his hand at hockey.
Later, he joined the Tampa Bay Lightning sled hockey team and began competing in national games with them. He made his first U.S. National Team at the age of 14. Declan will compete in the March Paralympics 2022 alongside 17 other athletes. He would be presenting in the United States while competing in the Paralympics versus Canada, South Korea, and Russia.
