Joivan Wade is an English actor who is best known for his roles as Manyou in the BBC comedy series ‘Big School’ and Victor Stone / Cyborg in the DC Universe series ‘Doom Patrol.’ He has also appeared in the E4 adolescent drama ‘Youngers,’ as well as ‘Doctor Who.’ Wade, a native of London, became interested in performing at a young age. He later studied at the famed BRIT School and joined The National Youth Theatre. In 2012, he made his screen debut in an episode of the BBC medical drama series Casualty.’
He made his breakout performance in ‘Big School’ a year later. Wade was born in Downham, South London, the United Kingdom, on July 23, 1993. He is his parents’ middle child. He has a younger brother named Jerome and an elder brother named Romayle. Wade, who has been interested in performing since he was a child, attended the prestigious BRIT School in London. He was a member of the National Youth Theatre for a long time. Wade, who is deeply religious, has spoken about his faith, citing the dangers he has faced in his career as examples of his confidence in God.

Joivan Wade made his television debut in a season-26 episode of ‘Casualty’ in 2012, playing a character named Jacob. Later that year, he appeared in Michael van der Put’s drama short ‘Callum.’ He was in the main cast of the first season of BBC One sitcom ‘Big School,’ alongside industry veterans David Walliams, Catherine Tate, Steve Speirs, and Frances de la Tour. Wade’s character, Manyou, is a student at the story’s setting, the fictitious Greybridge Secondary School. Wade did not return for the show’s second season, which aired in 2014, after appearing in all six episodes of the first season.
Between 2013 and 2014, he participated in all 16 episodes of the E4 comedy-drama series ‘Youngers,’ which follows a group of South East London teens aspiring to fame in the urban music scene. Wade and fellow aspiring actor Percelle Ascott, as well as stand-up comedian Dee Kaate, established the comic troupe Mandem on the Wall. They achieved a lot of success, which led to the launch of their YouTube channel, Wall of Comedy, on October 26, 2011.

In 2016, he joined the cast of another long-running BBC show, ‘EastEnders.’ In 13 episodes of the show, he played Jordan Johnson. Prior to him, Michael-Joel David Stuart held the position from 2008 until 2010.
Wade appeared in an episode of ‘The Break,’ the British translation of Netflix’s French-language Belgian crime-drama series ‘La Trêve,’ in 2017. In 2018, he starred in and produced the final two installments of the short film trilogy ‘Shiro’s Story.’ Wade appeared in the action-horror film ‘The First Purge’ as Isaiah, a drug dealer (2018). Despite being the fourth installment in The Purge franchise, the film acts as a prequel to the whole series, depicting what happened during the first annual purge. The film received mixed reviews, but it was a commercial triumph, grossing $137 million at the box office against a budget of $13 million.
He appeared alongside Ruth Sheen, Connor Swindells, and Nicholas Pinnock in Ed Lilly’s musical drama ‘VS.’ (2018). In 2019, he starred as the title character in the drama short ‘Amani,’ which was inspired by the true story of knife-attack victim Amani Simpson. Wade was cast as Victor Stone / Cyborg in the DC Universe online series ‘Doom Patrol’ in August 2018.
The sitcom stars Timothy Dalton, Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, Diane Guerrero, and April Bowlby, and is based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name. From February 15, 2019, to May 24, 2019, the first season aired. The sitcom has been revived for a second season due to broad positive reception. Wade appeared in the 2019 horror-thriller film ‘The Dare’ as a supporting role. Along with Ascott and Kaate, he will appear in the upcoming comedy film ‘Inner Bull.’
