Tim Stafford spent over five decades of his life working professionally. He is a gifted songwriter who has written over 250 songs. He was named IBMA Songwriter of the Year in 2014 and 2017. In addition to Blue Highway, he has worked as a studio musician with Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Jorma Kaukonen, Jesse McReynolds, Benny Sims, Marty Raybon, and Joe Isaacs, Ronnie Bowman, Charles Sawtelle, and many others.
Endless Line, his debut solo album, was released on FGM Records in 2004 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for an IBMA award for Instrumental Recording of the Year in 2005. His second album, Just to Hear the Whistle Blow, was released in July 2014, and his third, Acoustic Guitar, was released in September 2017.
In 2010, he co-wrote Still Inside: The Tony Rice Story, a book on living legend Tony Rice. He also produced multiple award-winning albums for artists such as Kenny Chesney, The Infamous Stringdusters (IBMA 2007 co-album of the Year), and Knee Deep in Bluegrass, as well as the Acutab Sessions (IBMA 2001 Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year).
He has taught at nearly every bluegrass camp imaginable, including Rockygrass Academy, Camp Bluegrass (South Plains College, TX), Augusta Heritage, Wintergrass Academy, and others.
