Stephen Edward Schmidt, also known as Steve Schmidt, is a well-known American communication and public strategist.
Schmidt rose to prominence while working on Republican campaigns for President George W. Bush, Arizona Senator John McCain, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Steve became the National Republican Congressional Committee’s spokeswoman in 2001, then Director of Communications in 2002. Schmidt was a member of the senior strategic planning group, directed by White House advisor Karl Rove, that oversaw President George W. Bush’s re-election campaigns in 2004.
After leaving the White House in 2006, Steve went to work for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a campaign manager.
Steve Schmidt spoke out for gay rights at a Log Cabin Republicans meeting, where he mentioned his lesbian sister and her partner.
Steve Schmidt was indirectly involved in the HBO film “Game Change” in 2012, as Woody Harrelson played his character.
This video was inspired by the book “Game Change,” written by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. The film was essentially about Sarah Palin’s choices in the 2008 United States Presidential elections. In 2018, Steve became a top campaign strategist for Mccain’s presidential campaign, where he blasted former President Trump.
Steve sparked outrage on June 20th, 2018, when he tweeted, “29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party, which was founded in 1854 to combat slavery and stand for the dignity of human life.” It was a series of tweets in which he chastised Republicans for being “feckless cowards.”
He would later come to regret his decision, as Trump won the election. Schmidt is currently employed with JUST Capital, a non-profit research group. He serves on the board and collaborates with fellow members Deepak Chopra, Ariana Huffington, and others.
