Regé, who has three siblings, was born in London on January 24, 1990, but grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe. Regé and his family later moved back to North London when he was fourteen years old, and he continued his education there.
When he was younger, the actor played drums in a band with his brother. When discussing his youth with The Fall magazine, he stated,
“The idea of running around screaming at people appealed to me as a teenager.
I found solace in being aggressive, in breaking down barriers and challenging norms.”

In an interview with Interview magazine, the actor opened up about growing up in a large family. He said,
“I have family in South Africa, Australia, Sweden, Grenada, and Florida, so you make pit stops and broaden your horizons.”
The actor considers his home to be where his people are. He elaborated on his experiences growing up as a mixed-race child, saying,
“In America, the echoes of slavery can still be felt, and Zimbabwe is very much feeling the echoes of British colonial rule.”
Because he had been exposed to racism from a young age, the actor was well aware of his identity as a “mixed-raced man” and referred to himself as a “walking political statement.” As an example, he shared one of his childhood memories,
“I remember there was a really nice nursery school close to us; my mother took me there and there wasn’t enough room, and then my father took me there and there was enough room.”

That was my paper route; that was my hobby.”
