Lex Luger upset victory against Hulk Hogan to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. Few fans of professional wrestling will ever forget stating to WWE:
“The evening in Detroit when I defeated Hulk Hogan to win the WCW championship. I will never forget the answer. That evening in Detroit was amazing. And at the same location as I lost in 1993.
The victory was possibly the pinnacle of a career that didn’t quite reach its potential. Luger was nevertheless one of the biggest and most well-known wrestlers of the 1990s and the early 2000s. His professional life came to a disastrous end, but he has recovered amazingly.

Lex is primarily a wheelchair user, though she can occasionally walk. On a flight to San Francisco in 2007, Lex first noticed neck pain. He had a pinched nerve as a result of the tissue in his neck compressing a nerve too much. A spinal infarction and paralysis from the neck down were the results of the disorder. stating to WWE:
“I had practically stopped getting circulation to my body because of the manner I had turned my neck while flying. Even though it was only a random accident, it left me with severe swelling from my C6 [vertebra], which is at the base of my neck, to my D5, which is in my chest. From the neck down, I was rendered motionless.
The doctors informed Lex that he would be permanently crippled and would need 24-hour care. Lex, however, defied predictions and gained the majority of his mobility after receiving antibiotic therapy and physical therapy.
“My recuperation has been just wonderful,” he continued. I’m grateful that I can now walk and live alone. Nobody is certain that I will fully recover, but I have already recovered so much — more than anyone could have imagined.
Although she prefers to use a wheelchair, Lex can sometimes travel small distances on foot. To Sports Illustrated, he stated:
I’m very healthy, which is a miracle from God considering what I put my body through, aside from my movement limitations caused by my spinal cord issue. I can walk slightly but I generally require a wheelchair or walker.
When being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Luger told Sports Illustrated, “I might pop out of the chair for that. If the chance ever presented itself, I would take it. My career would be crowned by receiving that honor.
Following Vince McMahon’s resignation as CEO, Luger’s chances of being inducted into the Hall of Fame have strengthened. Insiders claim that Vince was hesitant to admit Lex since he required a wheelchair. Lex could soon become a member of the Hall of Fame with Triple H in control.
Booker T remarked, “Lex Luger indicated he would step onto the stage if he were to receive a WWE Hall of Fame induction. Luger lost his renowned body, although he claims to be in generally good condition.
Two years after his wrestling retirement, Luger experienced paralysis. Due to drug and alcohol misuse, Luger’s life was a complete shambles by the time he retired.
After WCW’s demise, Luger was unable to secure a lucrative deal with them. As a result, he had a lot of free time, which he used to engage in drug use with Miss Elizabeth, his sweetheart. After ingesting a fatal combination of liquor and medications, she passed away in 2003. Eric Bischoff, the head of WCW, stated in a WWE Legends program on A&E:
“Lex made her own decisions and choices; she was an adult woman. I was devastated and furious as hell with Lex, which is pretty stupid on my behalf. I believed Lex exploited her, manipulated her, and guided her in that direction. I spent a lot of time blaming Lex.
Due to the tragedy, Luger increased his drug usage, lost interest in living, and even considered suicide. After meeting Pastor Steve Baskin, who encouraged the former wrestler to embrace Christianity, Lex claimed that his life had changed. By Luger,
“I knelt and said a prayer. I had never done that before. I was in tears when I was through. I vowed to be completely honest, to seek forgiveness, and to invite Jesus into my heart. I was immediately calm. The entire experience made me feel as though I had been power-washed from the inside out.
Although Luger has lost some of his legendary physical attributes and some of his mobility, he still leads a healthy life.
He told The Atlanta Journal, “I’ve never been stronger, richer in spirit, or more of a man as I am right now.
