Sam Aliassime and Marie Auger welcomed Felix Auger-Aliassime into the world on August 8, 2000, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Marie Auger is of French Canadian descent, whereas Sam is Togolese. Felix and Malika were given the names Auger-Aliassime by Sam and Marie to honor their shared ancestry.
After beating Frances Tiafoe and moving on to the 2021 US Open quarterfinal, Felix revealed that he and fellow countrywoman Leylah Fernandez had difficult upbringings. Leylah, a 19-year-old, defeated Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka to qualify for the Women’s quarterfinal.
Frances and I have come a long way, Auger-Aliassime told ESPN.
“Both of our families come from difficult backgrounds.”
Sam Aliassime left Togo for Canada, where he eventually married Marie Auger, a child psychologist. Hockey is typically the sport of choice for young Canadian athletes, but Felix preferred tennis.
Felix told ESPN that his mother doesn’t enjoy sports and that his father didn’t know what hockey was until he arrived in Canada. We participated in various sports because our parents wanted us to be well-rounded athletes, but tennis was always our favorite.

Until he was 13, Felix played for Sam. Felix’s game improved as he switched to professional coaches. Felix remarked, “From then, I truly go to another level.”
After graduating from high school, Auger-Aliassime and his parents decided he would decide on his tennis career.
According to Felix, who spoke to ESPN,
“I would graduate from high school with decent marks and then, depending on where my level in tennis was, either go to university or become pro.”
Felix was never able to attend college because of his outstanding results in youth competitions. Sam took care of the athletic side of things, and Marie Auger made sure Felix stayed focused and grounded. As she stated to Tennis Canada:
“I attempted to maintain equilibrium at home. My children and I communicate well, and they trust me with their secrets. Being the father of a professional tennis player is not always simple, but I have gotten better at it. Felix works while competing in tennis competitions. I maintain a positive outlook and make sure he feels encouraged, but I let him handle the tennis.
Felix’s mother is more proud of Felix’s humanity
Felix is a terrific person as well as a good player, Marie told Tennis Canada. She claimed that she always pays attention to his behavior in court. When a decision goes against him, Felix frequently expresses his disapproval by questioning line calls, making gestures to his loved ones, and shaking his head.
But he always keeps a level head that supports his capacity to react to disappointment. Felix supports his mental toughness with humane actions that are uncommon in professional sports. Marie discussed one of Felix’s most endearing incidents with Tennis Canada:
“I recall Felix having just won a significant junior event when he was younger. He saw his opponent crying after the match because of the defeat. Felix immediately went to fetch some Kleenex from his tennis bag and gave it to the opposing player. That was my favorite moment from the entire event, even though he won the title and had excellent tennis.
Felix has been raised by Marie to be a kind and sensitive person, in Marie’s opinion. Marie continued,
“Of all the jobs I’ve ever had, becoming a parent has been the most successful one.”
Felix provided an update to the ATP Tour in April 2020 regarding the security lockdown’s impact on his family. He claimed that everyone was in good health and that he had been spending additional time with his family creating memories.
In addition, Felix said,
“I’m making sure I get adequate rest and spend time with my family.
“Due to my profession, our family very occasionally has the chance to spend this much time together. It’s fantastic to feel like it’s back in the day when I was a kid, spending time with my sister and parents because it’s likely to last for weeks or months longer.
Felix played board games with his mother and sister to maintain his competitive spirit. He claimed that the lack of an obvious winner made him appreciate the games. Felix said,
“I need to find a way to remain competitive in some aspect of my life, even though I’m not on the court.
“The games have been fairly close; the other day I beat my mom by a few points. It’s been really enjoyable.
