Tim Roth and Quentin Tarantino have long been friends. It was a connection that began years ago in his apartment when Tarantino only had a screenplay for Reservoir Dogs. The couple sat down and read the entire screenplay before co-producing the picture in which Roth starred.
Roth’s collaborations with the legendary filmmaker are among his most well-known works. However, meeting Tarantino had an impact on more than just his professional life. After meeting and working with the filmmaker, his personal life improved considerably; yet, chance had just as big a role as the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood director.
Tim Roth Met His Wife at the ‘Reservoir Dogs Premiere
When Roth and Tarantino attended the Sundance Film Festival premiere of Reservoir Dogs in 1992, they were in a good mood. Unbeknownst to either of them, Roth’s future wife would also be present.
Nikki Butler, a fashion designer, was in Salt Lake City but did not attend the event. Instead, she was on a ski trip with a few of her friends.
They met, but there was no immediate attraction.
She didn’t know him and hadn’t watched any of his films; he was smitten from the start but thought she was unattainable. He previously told The Observer that she was “out of [his] league – too tall and gorgeous.” Roth came very close to missing his shot.
When a mutual acquaintance set them up for a date, everything changed. “We were snogging at the bar in 20 minutes,” he recalled of their encounter. They married a year later in Belize, where he was filming for a movie.
Roth stated of his wedding, “We planned to slip away and do it on a movie set.” He got her initials tattooed on his arm first, then chugged a drink with a friend (maybe to gain courage for what was about to happen), then returned to Butler and proposed to her.
He may have given her a good scare in the process – she was afraid he was going to end their relationship.
Tim Roth’s Wife and Children
Roth already had one child before he met with Butler. In 1984, when Roth was 23, he had his first kid, son Jack Roth, with his then-girlfriend Lori Baker. After marrying his wife, he had two more children: Timothy Hunter (named after Hunter S. Thompson) in 1995 and Michael Cormac on January 5, 1996.
He moved to Los Angeles years before having children and married Butler. After married, he started a family in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.
All of his children are involved in the entertainment world, albeit Timothy appears to be the quieter one. Jack has appeared in over 34 films, television shows, and music videos.
Michael Cormac Roth is a musician who, in addition to working at New Order’s music department in 2020, is an independent music composer and producer whose tracks are available on various streaming platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
