Some claim that the film has become the standard for what an excellent film with a female lead should be like among members of the alt-right. And because of this, many claimed, the film served as a vehicle for the spread of divisive and misogynistic views.
It was even alleged that Alita: Battle Angel was chosen by the alt-right to compete with Captain Marvel from Marvel, a film that received great criticism for pushing its ideology on viewers.
Salazar had nothing to do with any of this, but it was only inevitable that her name would come up.
