Ethan Phillips has a long history in Hollywood, spanning more than 40 years. In Broadway and off-Broadway shows, Phillips launched his career in the show business.
Later, he made the switch to acting on a larger scale and appeared in a variety of dramas and comedies, including Richer or Poorer, Jeffrey, Benson, Pushing Daisies, Bones, etc.
The science fiction franchise Star Trek, which consists of eleven television series, thirteen films, three companion programs, countless novels, comic books, and video games, was his most prolific, though.
In the 1990 episode of The Next Generation, “Ménage à Troi,” the actor made his television acting debut as Dr. Farek, a Ferenci character. Along with Dr. Farek, he also brought to life three other show characters. His characters are listed below.
1. Dr. Farek
Dr. Farek, who appears in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Ménage à Troi” from season 3 is first on the list.
A Ferengi doctor named Farek was stationed on board the Marauder Krayton. In the abduction of William Riker, Deanna Troi, and Lwaxana Troi from a Betazed trade convention, he assists DaiMon Tog.
The doctor intended to employ invasive procedures to comprehend how the prisoner’s telepathy functioned. Before the USS Enterprise-D could save them, the Starfleet Officers sabotaged Farek’s scanning apparatus.
2. Neelix
Dr. Farek’s Neelix wasn’t like Phillips’ version. Neelix made up for Farek’s lack of morals and empathy with his positive attitude and eagerness to aid humans in their quest.
He joined the crew of the starship when it was stranded close to space. He is a Talaxian and a resident of the Delta Quadrant.
Neelix developed into a useful team member and provided vital intelligence for the Voyager crew’s strategy and command decisions. From 2371 until 2378, he remained aboard the Voyagers before departing to live with other Talaxians on an asteroid in the Delta Quadrant.
3. Nightclub Maitre D
The Star Trek actor only and infrequently made an appearance on the science fiction series when he took on the role of the nightclub’s Maitre D in Captain Picard’s Dixon Hill holodeck program in 1996’s Star Trek: First Contact.
The Captain utilized the Maitre D to momentarily divert the Borg drones, but it only worked for a few seconds, and Picard and Lily Sloane were using the holodeck to flee from the Borg invading the U.S.S. Enterprise-E.
4. Ulis
In the Star Trek: Enterprise season 1 episode “Acquisition,” in which the crew of Captain Jonathan Archer’s NX-01 saw the Ferengi for the first time, Phillips also made an appearance as a Ferengi named Ulis.
The enterprise was taken out of commission by a group of Ferengi pirates, including Ulis, so he and his crew could steal from it. The avaricious pirate questioned Archer about the whereabouts of the Captain’s rumored treasure vault.
Ulis was unfortunate since Archer’s team outsmarted them and handed control of their spacecraft to Krem.
