A recent episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast included the Duchess of Sussex being up about a story from her adolescence. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, for which Markle and her husband Prince Harry traveled to the UK, the podcast Archetypes, hosted by Meghan Markle and featuring Serena Williams as a guest, was put on hold. The Duchess of Sussex talks about harmful misconceptions about Asians in the fourth edition of the podcast, which has just been aired.

The fourth episode of Markle’s podcast features interviews with journalist Lisa Ling and comedian Margaret Cho regarding the prejudice that underlies some stereotypes of Asians. In the episode, Meghan also thinks back on her upbringing in Los Angeles, where she first encountered many cultures and developed a passion for learning about them. In the program, Markle was very frank about her experience as a teen embracing many cultures.

The humiliating teenage moment of Meghan Markle

The Duchess of Sussex shared a unique glimpse into her early years when she talked about how she and her mother Doria frequently visited Korean spas, where she recalls feeling “humbled” as an adolescent while women as young as nine years old waited about naked for body scrubs.

The Duchess commented as she observed Korean women embracing the jimjilbang, a generational custom. When she got past her teenage humiliation, she recalled, “my mum and I would walk upstairs, sit in a room, and enjoy a steaming bowl of the most exquisite noodles.”

In the same show, Markle also talked about how she didn’t become aware of the prejudice that Asian-American women experience until much later.

The Duchess of Sussex has previously featured Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and comedian Mindy Kaling on her show. The Duchess’ podcast is devoted to talking about the different labels placed on women that aim to limit them.

Even though Markle’s podcast has resumed, reports claim that her Netflix documentary series with Prince Harry is being pushed back even further in the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death because the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are allegedly trying to downplay some conversations in it that are related to the senior members of the royal family, such as King Charles III.
