Her previous comments, which are said to illustrate her claimed homophobia and transphobia as well as a few other potentially contentious things, are what many people on Twitter refer to as a lot greater and more serious reason to hate on her.

Is Olivia Wilde anti-gay?

There are not many instances of obvious homophobia in Wilde’s works. However, the internet can only latch on to anything once before moving on.

After years of performing, Wilde just began directing films. In an episode of Off Camera with Sam Jones from June 2019, Wilde goes into great detail about her transition from in front of the camera to behind the camera. And in doing so, she did something that the LGBTQ+ community clearly disapproves of: she compared her shift in job to a “coming out of the closet.”

She admitted to Sam Jones, “I almost feel like someone who’s come out of the closet.” But she didn’t stop there; Olivia Wilde added context to her comparison.

She continued, “I haven’t felt this degree of comfort that comes from being genuine to yourself in a long time, but there’s this feeling of honesty about what I actually want to achieve.

Although Wilde may have been serious when she said that switching from acting to directing had been liberating, the LGBTQ+ community felt the connection to be offensive and even outright homophobic. And the majority of the neighborhood’s members turned to Twitter to vent their anger.

They felt that she invalidated the LGBT community and made fun of something as serious as someone coming out of the closet with her comment.

She was promoting the coming-of-age film Booksmart, which is about Amy and Molly, two female high school students who are exploring their gender and sexual identities, when she drew the analogy.

Her tribute to the younger generation, who were more daring in their investigations of human sexuality and their breaking down of barriers, was the film. She was among the loudest to criticize the censoring when the film’s lesbian scenes and even the word “lesbian” were removed for airline viewing.

Another time, she said that her “man-eating sex bender” had left her feeling lonely and depressed to the point that she nearly desired to be in a lesbian relationship. This was just before she met Jason Sudeikis, her ex-husband.

Because they interpreted her statements to suggest that she believed all lesbian relationships were merely “gentle” and “soft,” the LGBTQ+ community considered this one upsetting. She was charged with oversimplifying and underestimating the difficulties that lesbian partnerships, like other relationships, endure.

Is Olivia Wilde anti-trans?

The charges against Wilde for her transphobia are also based on a single interview from 2011, much like the claims against her for homophobia.

Alongside Emma Stone, Wilde was appointed as Revlon’s brand ambassador in that year. In a December 2011 interview with Style List, she also brought up the brand, her makeup, and her realizations about what looked well on her while making an unflattering comparison.

Even though Wilde claimed to have “mastered” eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara, she still had doubts about lipsticks. The contentious act followed, however it was hardly Wilde’s first.

“It’s challenging for my face to have powerful lips and eyes. I have a t****y fast speed, “She remarked. “It’s accurate since my jaw is really powerful. Therefore, I merely need to be aware of how it changes the appearance of my face.”

Many people were offended by her use of the hard t-word, and tweets about it are still being sent out today. However, several tweets claim that Wilde appears to be the t-word in Revlon’s advertisements and other places.

To put the word in some context, let’s say that t****y is now a derogatory term whose use is condemned by both the media and major organizations. However, in 2011, the meaning of the phrase was still up for question. People weren’t sure if it was a slur or a repurposed slang term representing the LGBTQ+ community’s pride and unification.

In 2017, when the word was deemed obscene and used in hate speech by stylebooks and media outlets, the controversy that had gathered significant pace in 2010 was finally put to rest.

Concerning controversy around makeup, her and her makeup artist were criticized for photoshopping her Instagram photograph.

The alleged pedophilia and racism of Olivia Wilde

The filmmaker of Don’t Worry Darling has additionally been charged with racism and encouraging pedophilia (via dark humor) in addition to homophobia and transphobia.

People sometimes cite her funny tweet from 2013 as an illustration of the former, in which she made fun of being added to a list of sex offenders after merely watching kids skate. She also allegedly disproves Anthony Kiedis, who has been charged with engaging in improper behavior with a minor.

Regarding the latter, she was (and is still) accused of supporting or being a racist since she defended Ali G’s joke at the 2016 Oscars against Asian people. Additionally, she is accused of blackfishing.

Given that the hatred persists even after she responds, Wilde has not addressed any of these allegations and likely never will.
