In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Surendra Pal was born on Friday, September 25, 1953 (age 66 as of 2019). He was raised in Lucknow, where his father was employed by the Uttar Pradesh Police as a DSP. He attended schools run by the UP Board. His father wanted him to enlist in the Indian Army or the police force, but he choose to pursue a career in acting instead of either of those.

He left his family and relocated to Mumbai in 1980 when he was twenty-four years old, following his graduation from Ghaziabad in the Uttar Pradesh province. He didn’t know anything about movies when he arrived in Mumbai, and he didn’t even understand the distinction between a producer and a director.

In the Uttar Pradesh Police, his father served as a DSP. His five older brothers number five. While one of his older brothers joined the police force, two of his older brothers enlisted in the Indian Army.

In 1996, Surendra Pal wed Barkha Sharma Singh. Three children—two sons and a daughter—were eventually born to the couple. He and Barkha Sharma Singh divorced in 2002, and now all three of their children reside with him in Mumbai.

His youngest son, Shubham Singh, is a Delhi University graduate in commerce, while his eldest son, Shivam Singh, is a television anchor.

At a five-star hotel in Goa, Shivangi Singh, his daughter, manages the gym.

How did Surendra Pal start his Professional Career?

Alongside Shabana Azmi and Girish Karnad, he made his acting debut in the Kader Khan-produced Hindi film Shama in 1981.

Then, in 1984, he collaborated with Ashok Kumar on the film Grahasti. He performed in the 1985 movie Ghulami by J. P. Dutta, playing the part of “Daku Suraj Bhan.” His first trip to his hometown of Rajasthan was for the filming of Ghulami.

He then went on to make appearances in over 40 movies during his career, including several well-known Bollywood movies including Khuda Gawah (1992), Lakshya (2004), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Airlift (2016), and Rangoon (2017). His first Malayalam movie was Prayikkara Pappan (1995).

With the release of the movie “Asian Pyar Se Dekhbu T Pyar Ho Jai” in 2010, he made his Bhojpuri cinematic debut. In a few Rajasthani movies including Nani Bai Ro Mayro (2017) and Pakki Herogiri, he has both acted and produced (2016).

His portrayal of Guru Dronacharya in B. R. Chopra’s epic historical television series Mahabharat (1988), which made him a household figure in India, marked his television debut.

Riding high on the success of Mahabharat, Surendra Pal began receiving numerous offers to play titular roles in different television projects. He later went on to give many other well-known performances, including “Mahamatya Rakshas” in Chanakya (1991), “Thunder” in The Zee Horror Show (1995), “Tamraj Kilvish” in Shaktimaan (1997), “Kailashnath” in Shagun (2001), “Guru (2011).
