On Tuesday, June 21, British comedian Joe Lycett revealed that a spectator at a recent performance had called the police regarding one of his jokes. The 33-year-old native of Birmingham used Instagram to publish a formal email announcing the resolution of the case.

In his post, Lycett observed that he had to issue a statement outlining the specifics of the joke that had infuriated the reader. Additionally, he promised his audience that the joke will continue throughout the remainder of his “UK & Ireland 2022” tour. The comedian made no further mention of the joke or the specific passage that might have infuriated the audience member.
What was Joe Lycett’s opinion of his divisive joke?
Lycett said that the offender was offended by a single joke or a specific joke’s punchline. The comedic actor wrote on Instagram:
So, a few weeks back, someone who attended one of my tour dates expressed displeasure over a joke. And their f***ing natural response was to call the police.
Lycett continued by describing how the cops were “nice” about it but felt forced to look into the claim nonetheless. The singer for Got Your Back claimed that the investigation compelled him to produce “a statement clarifying the joke’s context for them.” The British television host added the following in the post:
I had a lot of pleasure sending a message to a police investigator using the term “big donkey d*ck.”
The comedian considered the relevant joke to be among his best creations. Joe Lycett made light of the fact that the joke would continue to be shared until he was put in jail for making it in his post. The final show on his current stand-up comedy tour is slated to occur in London in September.
Throughout the play’s current run, which sparked the police investigation, Lycett steadfastly refused to provide any information about it. GQ claims that it was the event hosted on June 8 at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall. According to the newspaper, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) claimed that the complaint was made as a result of the aforementioned program.
Both GQ and Joe Lycett assert that the investigation is now over. The screenshot of the purportedly official police email has the following text:
“First and foremost, I’d want to thank you for today’s help; it was very appreciated. I can attest that the investigation by the police was successful.
Issues in the past with Joe Lycett
Last year, Lycett made a contentious visit to the UK-based Steph’s Packed Lunch discussion program on Channel 4. The comedian was questioned by the show’s host regarding a single-use plastic bottle that could be seen in one of Lycett’s Instagram pictures of his garden.
The British celebrity responded with a clever retort before leaving the broadcast. Since Lycett had already vowed to stop using single-use plastic, many fans believed that Steph McGovern’s mention of the single-use plastic bottle on the program was what ultimately led to his departure.
To resist German luxury fashion firm Hugo Boss, Joe Lycett officially changed his name before the aforementioned dispute. At the time, the business was charged with sending cease-and-desist letters to nonprofit organizations and small businesses whose names contained the word “boss.”
The company responded later, saying they had reached a friendly understanding with one of the companies they had forbidden from using the word.
