Maryland senatorial candidate Jon McGreevey was detained on July 15, 2022, for falsely reporting a case of child sex trafficking. The Senate candidate allegedly reported in April that a man was allegedly forcing a young girl, between the ages of 10 and 12, to engage in sexual activity with male customers at an adult bookstore. According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the candidate was charged with making false statements to police.
Under the guise of Dr. Jon McGreevey, candidate Ryan Dark White, 54, claimed that the attack took place in an adult store in the Edgewood neighborhood’s 3000 block of Pulaski Highway. The investigation that followed, however, showed that there was no supporting data for the claim.
The detectives assigned to the Harford County Youngster Advocacy Center were able to identify the adult man and the youngster involved in the incident despite the absence of any witnesses to the alleged behavior. Authorities assert that:
“Detectives conducted witness interviews, followed up on leads, gathered digital evidence, and located the adult man and teen girl mentioned in the first complaint. The investigation revealed that, contrary to White’s claims, none of the people in the facility performed or offered any sex acts.
Investigators questioned McGreevey on July 7, a week before his detention. While he waits to appear before the District Court Commissioner, he is being held at the Harford County Detention Center.
Who is Ryan Dark White, exactly?
The legality of Jon McGreevey’s usage of a pseudonym is being questioned by online users.

Sheriff of Harford County Jeffrey R. Gahler said in a news release:
A candidate for public office should not make up such a story and use it to advance his own political goals, according to the statement.
The Harford County Sheriff made the following remarks regarding Andy Kuhl, a candidate for Baltimore County sheriff who was spotted with McGreevey during an interview about child trafficking gangs:
Even worse, a candidate for a law enforcement position would accept a plainly false claim just to gain political momentum, not for any other reason.
