The artist, who had been separated from his wife Brianna Azucena since 2020, announced his intention to divorce her shortly after the charges were made public. After hearing the news, visual artist Cataphant said that Gawvi had allegedly sent unsuitable pictures to women before parting ways with Azucena.
In response to the problem, the artist’s contract with Reach Records was canceled, and he was also kicked off the upcoming We Are Unashamed package tour.
According to the record company, Gawvi’s conduct was deemed to be “inconsistent” with its core values. The company added that despite the “tough” decision, the move was “necessary”. Additionally, Reach Records urged its followers to pray for the affected families and individuals.
Through March and April, the We Are Unashamed tour is reportedly still going on without Gawvi, with concerts from other artists on the label like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Trip Lee, Tedashii, 1K Phew, Wande, WHATUPRG, and Hulvey.
A Look At Gawvi’s Divorce And The Current Debate
On January 30, 2022, Gawvi filed for divorce from his estranged wife Brianna Azucena. The rapper revealed in a since-deleted Instagram post that he and his wife were divorcing in 2020:
We tried everything we could to make it work for years, but after getting help from friends, family, and a therapist, I made the extremely tough decision to continue in the way I thought would be the healthiest.
The Late Nights singer added that his divorce is the result of “two adults” coming to a mutual decision and that there is “no controversy or gossip” surrounding it.
The music producer declared that despite their divorce, they would always love and provide for their two children the best environment possible for them to grow up in. The musician thanked his followers for their prayers and support during this tough time and pleaded with them to respect his privacy.
Shortly after the revelation, Azucena’s friend and visual artist Cataphant took to Twitter to denounce the Christian hip-hop sensation for alleged inappropriate behavior.
She said that the musician sent “unwanted” and inappropriate photos to other women while he was still married to Azucena. Her claims, according to Cataphant, were not a “knee-jerk, mindless response.” She claimed that because the artist was not very good at “covering his tracks,” his dubious behavior had been known to numerous people for more than a year.
She went on to say that everyone in Gawvi’s group made numerous attempts to speak with him, but he allegedly refused to take responsibility for his actions. Cataphant went so far as to refer to the artist as a “liar” and a “classic narcissist.”
The fashion designer added that she brought up the subject to defend her friend [Azucena], who was “inaccurately portrayed” in the divorce decree. Azucena may not have addressed her ex-illness, and husband’s but it appears that she uploaded several TikTok videos regarding “infidelity, trauma, and recovery.”
The claims led to Gawvi’s record company releasing him. He also deleted the majority of his social media profiles and posts. The singer had likewise kept mute about the accusations as of the time of writing.
