Louie Green, a comedian from Suffolk, instructed audience members to reserve their seats in advance and to arrive bearing a “bag of life” filled with non-perishable food and feminine products.
In order to help those in need, comedy lovers are “paying” for concert tickets with bags of food rather than cash.
At the Dove Street Inn in Ipswich, Stand Up for Food Banks is being presented by The Glass Eye Comedy at 19:30 GMT.
He claimed that comedians wished to contribute in some small way. Many people are worried right now, he remarked.
“We need to take action right away… if the comedy circuit can do just a small bit to help, then hopefully it will work.”
He claimed that the concept was created by the show’s performer and comedian John Mann and that they initially felt “it’ll never work, but we’ll try it.”
The St Helen’s Street pub’s performance, however, has already reached capacity.
The acts are all performing for free, according to Green and comedian Aaron Jay, who are organizing the event.
More than 150 acts contacted him offering to contribute their time, and he said he was “overwhelmed” by the response from other performers.
Rosie Francis, Trevor Bickles, Graeme Matthews, and Glenn Wool are among the other performers on the evening.
Green stated that despite the performance being sold out, anyone could still give.
He expressed the hope that a similar performance could be staged elsewhere.
