With cuisine as a defining theme, it will explore the beauty of completely immersing oneself in another culture. The movie was influenced by Tembi Locke’s book From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home. To turn her book into a television series, the author, who also serves as a screenwriter for the show, worked with her sister Attica Locke.
By Scratch also has appearances in various roles from Danielle Deadwyler, Keith David, Kellita Smith, Judith Scott, Lucia Sardo, Paride Benassi, and Roberta Rigano. This month, a series trailer was released on Netflix.
At 3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on October 21, 2022, the Netflix limited series will debut.
From Scratch: A Cultural Love Story trailer
A story of love that transcends national and cultural borders will be presented in the limited series. The television show, billed as a “love letter from Sicily,” would emphasize the advantages of intercultural relationships, which have frequently been presented unfavorably on television.
The program would cover a substantial section of Amahle’s life, from her developing connection through her marriage and delivery, according to the teaser. The synopsis of From Scratch reads:
As Amahle “Amy” Wheeler (played by Zoe Saldana), an American student studying abroad in Italy meets and falls in love with Lino, a Sicilian chef, “From Scratch” recounts their cross-cultural love story.
Since they come from extremely different cultural backgrounds, their quick relationship faces many unforeseen obstacles. However, in keeping with reality, it also has lighthearted and humorous moments that coexist with the more serious ones.
The program’s more somber topics are also covered in the synopsis. It asserts that the couple’s families come together to support one another as Lino experiences “unimaginable health challenges” that put their future at risk. This merely proves that “love knows no bounds,” the story claims.
The first and last episodes were written by the book’s author Tembi Locke and her sister Attica Locke. Other writers for the program include Amy Wang, JJ Braider, Marguerite MacIntire, Joshua Allen, and Jason Coffey. The series is directed by Nzingha Stewart and Dennie Gordon.
After losing her spouse, Locke revealed in a 2019 interview for the biography that when visiting Sicily with her daughter and mother-in-law:
How did we get here, especially in light of where we started and the reality that the only person who connected us no longer exists? That query seems to have been lifted directly from a book. Naturally, it took me two more years before I felt prepared to write it.
I had to summon the confidence to tell the story. I had to say something; this is a significant story. Possibly even more so for black women than for women in general.
Viewers will find this series fascinating because it is based on actual occurrences. Netflix will debut From Scratch on October 21, 2022.
