This week, David E. Kelley’s newest television project, The Calling, will premiere on Peacock. It will take a novel approach to hard-boiled detective stories and add a Kelley twist.
There is no need to call into doubt this senior producer’s series. With roles in shows like Picket Fences, Big Little Lies, and Ally McBeal, Kelley has already demonstrated his talent. At 3 a.m. EST on November 10, 2022, The Calling will make its premiere.
Based on the detective Avraham Avraham book series by Israeli novelist Dror Mishani, this new Peacock program, initially titled The Missing, was created.
The Missing File, the first book in the Avraham Avraham series, is said to be the inspiration for this season’s eight episodes. The show includes appearances by Michael Mosley, Karen Robinson, Juliana Canfield, Jeff Wilbusch, and others.
The Calling is nearly indistinguishable from classic hard-core detective movies and television shows thanks to its setting and color scheme, which closely resemble many of the genre’s greats. The incident also appears to be comparable to previous work on the topic.
But there are variations in the main character. In contrast to the inebriated, middle-aged, trauma-harboring investigators who are somewhat driven to the edge of society, this episode depicts an altogether different Avi Avraham, who is spiritual and sensitive.
His compassion for the victims frequently overrides his sense of logic, and he approaches each case as though it were his own. He stands out from other investigators shown in popular culture because of this.
The character, as described by Wilbusch, who was born in Israel and will play it this season:
“Avi is a difficult character,… His goal is to use his remarkable powers of observation to solve murder and missing person cases.
Additionally, he shows concern for his coworkers, such as ebullient rookie detective Janine Harris (played by Julia Canfield in Succession), sarcastic veteran officer Earl Malzone (played by Michael Mosley in Ozark), and benevolent boss Capt. Helen Davies (played by Karen Robinson in Schitt’s Creek).
Wiebusch also described how Kelley used his distinctive dark humor in the narrative, frequently including Avi. Regardless, Avi is a complicated character with a somewhat obscure past.
The teaser also hinted at Avi’s tendency to take things personally and too seriously, highlighting how this particular case will push the investigator to the limit. The following is a summary of the program:

The Calling’s executive producer is also Barry Levinson. Additionally, he is rumored to have directed a few of the episodes. Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro are the composers of the breathtaking music heard in the teaser. One of the most enduring aspects of the concert may turn out to be the sound.
