Barcelona has dismissed reports that Sergio Aguero has retired from football owing to health problems. The Argentine was removed from the game against Alaves owing to chest trouble and shortness of breath problems. According to accounts, cardiac arrhythmia causes irregular heartbeats.
According to Catalunya Radio in November, doctors recommended Aguero consider retirement, but he disputed the rumors on social media. Gerard Romero announced yesterday that Aguero would announce his retirement at a press conference the following week.
Vice-president of Barcelona Rafa Yuste told Movistar that such rumors are unfounded.
Aguero moved to Barcelona during the summer after his Manchester City contract expired. He has played in six games and scored one goal in El Clasico.
Barcelona has identified Raheem Sterling, the star’s former teammate, as a potential replacement if he retires this season. They are reportedly preparing an offer for the Manchester City player.
