Asano attended Yokkaichi Chuo Technical High School before starting for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2013. His skills immediately astounded everyone, and in 2014, he won the Japanese Super Cup and the J1 league. Later that year, he assisted the team in capturing the title for a second time, and he was named the J1 League Rookie of the Year.
He joined Arsenal in July 2016. Asano admitted that he wasn’t sure whether to accept Arsenal’s offer at the moment. He claimed he had always wanted to play abroad and had received a few offers in the past, but he wasn’t sure if he should go.
Many players were playing abroad when he was called up for the national team, and being around them at the time made him want to play and compete in a foreign league. After speaking with his family and friends, he felt good about his decision to accept Arsenal’s offer despite his uncertainty.
Then-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger lauded him as a talented young striker with a promising future. Before joining the Serbian club Partizan and becoming the team’s first Japanese player, he was loaned out by Arsenal to the VfB Stuttgart and Hannover 96. He started working for VfL Bochum in June 2021.
Asano was raised in Komono, Mie, together with his five brothers and one sister, where he was born. His mother was a housewife, and his father drove a truck. Asano thanks his family for allowing him to play football and attributes his humble demeanor to them.
Having so many brothers and sisters, in his opinion, has humbled him. His younger brother Yuya plays football professionally as well. He now plays offensive midfield for Sanfreece Hiroshima of the J1 league.
Where did Asano get the nickname “Jaguar” from?
Asano described how he came to be known by his moniker during an interview. He claims to be a very swift player, and Sanfrecce Hiroshima, a fan of his old team, gave him the nickname “The Jaguar.” When other admirers learned, they put up banners in his honor. For his celebration, he got his name.
As he scored additional goals, other people in Japan also learned how to perform the Jaguar celebration. Now, supporters demand that he do it each time he scores.
His best soccer attribute. Asano considers his quickness to be his most valuable playing quality. His strongest asset is his speed, which is followed by his ability to move around with ease. Asano prides himself on being a very chatty person, which he credits to the size of his family.
His all-time favorite Arsenal player is Thierry Henry. He claimed that Henry had the greatest impact on him as a youth when playing for Arsenal, and as a forward himself, he adored the way Henry played.
