The South Korean musical crisis between Ock Joo-hyun and Kim Ho-young has taken an unexpected and, according to many, conclusive turn when the former delivered an official apology to other musical professionals and fans. The event occurred shortly after the Elizabeth musical’s upcoming cast was announced.
Ock Joo-hyun and Lee Ji-hye have been cast as the leads in the tenth-anniversary production of the play in Korea. Many musical theater enthusiasts were surprised by the decision and questioned why Kim So-hyun, who performed in Elizabeth in 2015 and 2018, was not selected.
Numerous participants in the industry took sides, supporting either camp. Kim Ho-Instagram young’s post implied that anything was amiss.
He appeared to be addressing Ock Joo-Hyun when he said,
“Currently, the musical world is in a state of complete chaos.”
The actor’s remark infuriated Ock Joo-hyun, who swiftly sued him for defamation. Since then, the tension between the two actors and the music industry has reached an all-time high.
Many more actors and performers, including 2 AM’s Jo Kwon, have spoken out against discrimination in the music industry. A formal apology was given in response.
Ock Joo-complaint Hyun’s against Kim Ho-Young will be dropped
On June 24, Fin. former K.L’s lead singer offered an official apology to actors and fans on her Instagram page. The actress began her apology by admitting that her case against Kim Ho-young for defamation was “unattractive.”
She stated:
“I was recently entangled in a shady casting event and acted in an unpleasant manner by suing a colleague in the music industry. Accepting full responsibility for my poor judgment, I apologize humbly.”
“In light of recent events, I have read the condemnation offered by the sunbaenims of this area. As someone who appreciates musicals and has worked in the industry for seventeen years, I acknowledge that my explanation of the claims against me was impolite.”
Ock Joo-hyun apologized to everyone in the industry and to all of his followers.
“I would want to use this occasion to extend my sincerest apologies to everyone engaged in the music industry, to the audiences who appreciate our performances, and to anyone who has been offended by these events. I hope to rapidly resolve the commotion caused by my litigation.”
However, the musical singer was quick to clarify that she was not involved in the selection of Elizabeth and did not favor Lee Ji-hye in any way. Ock Joo-hyun asked the audience not to let the controversy influence their opinion of the excellent performers in the industry.
“I would want to explain unambiguously that I had no part in the casting for the tenth anniversary of the musical “Elizabeth.” Please should not direct your ire at actors and actresses who were selected based on their talents and tough tryouts.”
On the same day, an agent for the actor stated Ock Joo-intention Hyun’s to withdraw her lawsuit against the Pegasus Market actor. The disagreement will be resolved amicably, without the intervention of a court of law.
