The three-hour grand spectacle saw the five finalists perform to the best of their abilities in an effort to win the title and a $1 million cash prize.
As Maryanne defeated her to win the match and the $10,000 reward, the crowd roared. An observer tweeted:
With 18 castaways, the game was challenging right away. They overcame countless obstacles, fought their way through strategies and alliances, and survived numerous mind-blowing Tribal Councils in order to “outwit and outlast” one another. With 26 days under their belts, winning Survivor was a matter of one person playing shrewdly and cunningly.
Fans were ecstatic when Maryanne won Survivor, becoming the second consecutive Canadian and the second Black woman to accomplish so in the past 20 years. Social media was swamped with well wishes from viewers.
What transpired in the 42nd season finale of Survivor?
The Top 5 finalists for Survivor had to be at their best to advance to the season finale. The goal of Maryanne Oketch, Romeo Escobar, Mike Turner, Jonathan Young, and Lindsay Dolashewich’s performance was to win the season and establish their rightful place in the season finale.
But in Survivor, alliances can change and the tides might turn at any time. Alliances can change, trials can be both taxing and enjoyable for different people, and tribal councils can come as a surprise. Something quite similar occurred at the climax.
Viewers were aware at the beginning of the game that Maryanne was the only one of the five to possess the idol that, if she chose to use it, could be used to save another player.
After Omar was kicked off last week, Lindsay, one of his allies, thought she was in serious trouble and would be kicked out at the first Tribal Council. She only had one opportunity to win the immunity challenge in order to remain alive and go to the Top 4.
She managed to get the last advantage after solving a riddle, but Mike still beat her by one piece and advanced to the Top 4.
Jonathan was chosen to accompany him as he accepted the reward and made an effort to get the winner to play the idol. Meanwhile, Lindsay tried to talk Mike into playing the idol to keep her safe. Both of their ruses failed on Mike, who deployed the idol to keep Maryanne safe.
This was another trick by Maryanne to protect herself until the conclusion without disclosing she was playing with an idol. She initially had to play it to save Lindsay, but the contestant balked, resulting in the latter’s elimination.
At the second immunity challenge, the unexpected happened. Romeo, one of the weaker competitors, received immunity and the choice of one companion for the last three. Mike and Jonathan had to start a fire and claim their spot close to the two after he decided on Maryanne.
During the final Tribal Council, the three finalists had to convince the jury—made up of rivals who had been eliminated as a result of the merger—of their merits. The votes were cast after a mock interrogation, and, as in the previous season, they were announced in the jungle. The winner of Survivor Season 42 was announced as Maryanne.
Presenter Jeff Probst launched Season 43 of the show, which will have even more drama and exciting gameplay for viewers to enjoy, while Maryanne made history on the show. In order to win the coveted championship and a million dollars in cash, a brand-new set of castaways will compete.
