He was detained for two days after his arrest in July 2021 before being freed on a $250 million bail. Barrack will defend himself against these charges in federal court in Brooklyn later this month. Jury selection will start on September 19th.

A 43-year-old UAE national named Rashid Al-Malik is thought to act as a middleman between American officials and UAE government sources. Under Section 951 of the Penal Code, Barrack and Grimes were charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of acting as foreign agents without notifying the Justice Department. If found guilty, they may spend up to 10 years in jail.
