NO:EL faces a year in jail for driving without a license and rejecting a breathalyzer test. The Supreme Court’s third division upheld the rapper’s one-year prison sentence on October 14, 2022.
Jang Yong-jun, also known as NO:EL, is the son of Jang Je-won, a member of the National Assembly for the United Future Party. He debuted as a self-taught rapper in 2017. The singer/rapper has always had a deep love for music. His history of transgression, though, has stained him.
A brief history of NO:EL-related misconduct
On September 18, 2021, the Korean rapper was spotted driving a Mercedes Benz in the Seocho District’s Banpo and was engaged in an accident.
When the police got to the scene of the crime, they attempted to verify his BAC and driver’s license. In contrast, he refused to obey and instead struck them on the head.
NO:EL was sentenced to one year in prison following the first two trials. Yet, he was found not guilty of assaulting a police officer because the injuries were minimal. NO:EL subsequently appealed the verdict, and the case was transferred to the Supreme Court.
After the appeals court upheld the original verdict, he was given a one-year prison term. For driving under the influence in 2020, he was sentenced to one year and six months in jail and two years of probation. He also attempted to switch drivers to cover his mistake.
He later repeated the same offense and was arrested on a warrant during his probationary period on October 12, 2021. NO:EL was detained during the duration of the trial. But, at the end of the month, his imprisonment was lifted and he was released.
On October 9, 2022, he was released after serving a year in prison. In addition, he struck a motorcyclist while driving under the influence in 2019 and then worked as a social worker to atone for his error.
In the midst of the rapper’s wrongdoing and legal proceedings, K-netizens applaud the most recent Supreme Court ruling. The 22-year-old musician last released a studio album titled 21’S/S in 2021.
Since his debut, he has released three studio albums, two extended plays, and several singles with other rappers such as Justhis, Kid Milli, Young B, Giriboy, and Swings.
In other news, VICTON’s Heo Chan was expelled from the group after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The group’s agency, IST Entertainment, made a public statement to provide additional details about the incident.
