A new season of CBS’s popular reality TV show Survivor will premiere in less than a day. In the upcoming season, a new group of competitors will land on an abandoned island to compete in various athletic tasks to determine who will be victorious.
Season 44 of Survivor will premiere on CBS on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT. Matthew Grinstead-Mayle, a 43-year-old barbershop owner, is one of the Survivor season 44 candidates who plan to use his skills to win the challenge.
The following is the official Survivor season 44 synopsis:
“Stranded on the beautiful islands of Fiji, 18 determined new castaways will be divided into three groups of six and forced to create a new society as they adjust to their physical and social circumstances.”

Matthew was born in Pickerington, Ohio, but now resides in Columbus, Ohio. In an exclusive interview with Parade, Matthew revealed that the three words that best describe him are “spontaneous, compassionate, and daring.” When asked about his pet peeves, he replied:
“People who talk in loops, people who don’t give others enough time to speak in a conversation, purple and white, misformed popsicles, unusual numbers, pineapple on pizza, malt chocolate sweets.”
Furthermore, when asked about his favorite hobbies, he stated:
“Adventures with my son and wife, rollercoasters and waterslides, global cuisine, cultivating and gathering flora.”
He also stated that the most important factor for him in a partnership partner is confidence. To play the game, he stated, one must be able to believe another. They must, however, have skills that are distinct from their own. Matthew stated that one thing he would never do in the game is use contact’s curative ability to influence others.
“I’m currently pursuing a degree in massage therapy. And one thing I vowed to myself that I would never do was use touch’s curative power to influence others. That, in my opinion, would be unethical. I want people to appreciate what I do rather than see it as a power play in which I force people.”
When asked what he was most proud of, Matthew said his family. He also stated that if it weren’t for them, he would not be where he is today. Matthew shared the best piece of advice he received before entering the competition:
“Before I went out to play, my sister gave me the best advice. And she reminded me that no matter how difficult things are, they are only temporary. If it’s raining on you and you’re freezing, chilly, and trembling, and there’s no end in sight, remember that it’s only temporary.”
