The Voice returns to TV screens this week with a new season featuring two new mentors. Chance the Rapper and Naill Horan have joined Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson as new mentors for the NBC talent show.

Chance the Rapper will be a new mentor on The Voice Season 23

Chance the Rapper, an American hip-hop recording artist, is set to join the panel of judges on the NBC talent show, which has been running since 2011. Jonathan Bennet, the son of Lisa Bennet and Ken Williams-Bennett, was born in Chicago in 1993. His father worked as an assistant to Senator Barack Obama while his mother was the Attorney General of Illinois.

Because his father worked in the Department of Labor during Obama’s first term, the future Voice cast member met President Barack Obama as an adolescent. After being expelled from high school for using marijuana, Chance made his first mixtape in 2011. Complex magazine named him one of the ten upcoming Chicago singers to keep an eye on.

The following year, on April 3, 2012, he released his album. Childish Gambino requested that The Voice season 23 teacher perform for him on his first North American show tour after hearing him on his album. In 2013, the rapper’s third EP, Chance Acid Rap, debuted at number 26 on the Heatseekers list and at number 63 on the US R&B and Hip Hop chart.

The same year, it was nominated for Best Album at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. It was also on numerous lists, including Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and many others. Chance was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Original Music and Lyrics for his appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2017. He performed Last Christmas with Kenan Thompson, Eli Bruggemann, and Will Stephens.

In 2014, the artist was named Chicago’s Distinguished Child of the Year. He was recognized for his efforts to help children by organizing several open mic nights for high school students in collaboration with the Chicago Public Library. Through his Warmest Winter project, he raised funds to distribute 100 jackets and sleeping bags to the homeless two years later. Following that, The Voice season 23 teacher co-founded the charity group SocialWorks. The organization creates innovative juvenile initiatives for Chicago residents.

In 2017, Chance the Rapper donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools. His efforts to assist society’s most vulnerable members earned him the UNICEF Chicago Humanitarian Prize at the organization’s annual banquet in 2020. Niall Horan, a former member of One Direction, will be one of the new mentors joining him on The Voice. They will join Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton on the season beginning Monday, March 6. The season will premiere at 8 p.m. ET, with segments available on Peacock the following day.
