Matt Lucas will be replaced by Alison Hammond as co-host of The Great British Bake Off. The This Morning host will join Noel Fielding on the next season of the Channel 4 cookery show.
She uploaded a video to Twitter that featured miniature icing models of herself, Fielding, and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
Alison Hammond stated in the video that she was “extremely thrilled” and “so incredibly excited.”
She penned:
“The declaration is official!! It is occurring. Great Britain’s Bake-Off! Let’s cut the cake, so to speak. Very thrilled.”
In 2020, when she competed in the celebrity version of The Great British Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer, Hammond’s contagious wit created an impression in the tent.
On that occasion, Hollywood applauded her biscuits but compared her decorating talents to those of a five-year-old.
Alison has proven herself to be a natural on Bake Off, perhaps not as a baker, but as someone who brings contagious warmth and humor into the tent. We can’t wait for this year’s bakers to meet her and Noel.
Ian Katz, chief content officer for Channel 4, stated: “Alison is well-liked, effortlessly witty, and possesses the best British laugh. We’re happy to welcome her back in the tent, as she was a tremendous sensation when she starred on Celebrity Bake Off.”
From Big Brother to The Great British Bake Off
It is the most recent career move for a celebrity who has gone from being a competitor on a different reality TV show to be one of the most well-known faces on television.
In 2002, Hammond rose to popularity after participating in the third season of Big Brother. Her tenure was notable for several reasons, including the time she shattered an outside table by hopping on it while trying to find a security guard over the outer wall.
In addition to Kate Lawler, the series that year featured Jade Goody and Radio 1’s Adele Roberts. Hammond was the second person to be kicked out of the home, but that did not prevent her career from flourishing outside the house.
She was immediately employed as a roving reporter for ITV’s This Morning, where she became a fan favorite for incidents such as throwing a shirtless man into a river, almost being jailed in Pisa, and making Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling laugh during an interview.
She was promoted to co-host in 2020, presenting on Fridays alongside Dermot O’Leary.
In 2010, she appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and in 2014, she partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec on Strictly Come Dancing. Her fame as a broadcaster has not, however, transferred to success in TV contests; she placed tenth in both.
Alison Hammond became a judge on the BBC quiz show I Can See Your Voice in 2021 and made an impression on Hollywood A-listers when she co-hosted the Bafta film awards alongside Richard E. Grant in February.
Now, her down-to-earth personality and uncontrollable laughter will be included in the Bake Off dish.
