Henry Silva, born on September 23, 1926, dropped out of school at the age of 13 and began studying acting while working as a dishwasher and waiter in a Manhattan hotel. He auditioned for the Actors Studio in 1955 and was accepted. He later appeared in the play’s film adaptation, A Hatful of Rain.
