The well-known DJ and radio personality Lin Brehmer passed away on January 22, 2023, at the age of 68, after a long fight with cancer. His funeral plans are unavailable at this time.
In addition to his typical audience, notable celebrities and influential personalities have taken to social media to express their sorrow and respect for him through heartfelt words.
Los Lobos, a rock band, honored Brehmer on Facebook by submitting a photo and sharing their thoughts about the former radio host.
“There has never been a better friend or supporter than you. At his birthday party, as he stood up and played maracas with us, his grin could have lit up Wrigley Field. “May you rest in peace, brother.”
In a Facebook statement, radio station 93XRT also shared their sorrow, writing,
“It is with tremendous regret that we inform you that we have all lost our closest companion. Lin Brehmer fought cancer for as long as possible. This morning he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children. Tomorrow at 10 a.m., his XRT family will celebrate the life of our closest friend in the entire globe. We will be there for one another throughout this painful time. It would appeal to Lin. Nothing should be taken for granted.”
Dean Richards, film critic, and entertainment reporter for WGN-TV described Brehmer as an extraordinary talent who is also empathetic and driven.
Lin Brehmer took a medical leave of absence to undergo chemotherapy.
Before his death, Lin Brehmer had fought prostate cancer for an extended period of time. In July of last year, he revealed his decision to take the same break. He also explained the same issue in a tweet,
“On Monday, I will begin a lengthy round of chemotherapy. It is imperative that I take a break from my radio program.”
He even addressed the audience and requested that they continue to be cordial with him. Brehmer also stated that he will miss spending every day with them, but that this is merely a passing phase.
The exact date Brehmer was diagnosed with the ailment is unknown, but it has been established that he has been battling it for many years. Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of the disease.
In the majority of cases, the prostate grows slowly and stays contained within the prostate gland, however in others, it may spread rapidly.
Lin Brehmer’s efforts on numerous radio stations earned him widespread recognition.
While attending Colgate University, Brehmer, who was born on August 19, 1954, developed an interest in radio. Prior to becoming the music director at WXRT, he began his career as a DJ on WQBK-FM.
He then became the director of programming for KTCZ-FM before returning to WXRT. Afterward, Brehmer worked alongside Mary L. Dixon, a news anchor.
His tagline “it’s nice to be alive” was well-liked by his lovers and followers. He worked on the development of Lin’s Bin writings, which were later broadcast on television.
