Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that he was “looking forward” to Eurovision fun when Liverpool hosts the song contest, adding that it was a “source of national pride”
On 13 May, Liverpool will host the event on behalf of war-torn Ukraine.
Prime minister Rishi Sunak stated that he will host a Eurovision event with Ukrainian families at Downing Street.
“It’ll be a fantastic night,” he remarked, adding that there will likely be sequins, “but I won’t be wearing any.”
Mr. Sunak told BBC Breakfast that he has no plans to attend the final in Liverpool, but rather host an event in the capital.
“We intend to arrange an event in Downing Street, ideally with Ukrainian families in attendance.”
“The obvious reason we’re hosting Eurovision is because of the situation in Ukraine, so we felt it would be a lovely gesture to invite Ukrainian families to enjoy the evening with us.”
He continued,
“There will likely be sequins, but I won’t be wearing any.”
He stated that Eurovision was “a source of pride for the entire nation” due to our ability to participate.
Mr. Sunak continued,
“It’ll be a good evening.”
Liverpool was chosen above many other British towns to host the event on behalf of Ukraine, which won the competition last year.
It will be the first time in 25 years that the United Kingdom hosts the competition.
Activities will be held in Liverpool from 1-14 May, the day following the final.
At the song contest, Mae Muller will represent the United Kingdom.
