Some fans believed that when Logan Paul signed with WWE in July of 2017, it would be a publicity stunt. However, nine months later, the YouTuber inked a new multiyear contract with the company.
He shared the news with his 25,4 million Instagram followers through an unusually brief post that read, “contract renewed.”
In contrast, the social media star’s performances in the ring have not been modest.
Logan’s dramatic, high-flying moves have impressed WWE fans, and some have called him the greatest celebrity-turned-wrestler ever.
The man himself stated to ESPN,
“I feel tremendously fortunate to have discovered a talent at the age of 28.
“It’s mind-boggling that the organization thinks I’m good enough to continue hopefully building this WWE legacy.”
Logan is able to levitate
But has Logan Paul merely benefited from excellent storylines and formidable opponents, or does he have what it takes to succeed in sports entertainment?
Coach and professional wrestler Zak Zodiac describe Logan as “naturally gifted” in the ring.
“Many celebrities who enter professional wrestling are unwilling to put in the work,” he tells Newsbeat.
“But Logan Paul is not that individual.
“During the last few performances, when he jumped onto the announcement tables, he took a significant risk and put his body at risk.”
Zak, whose story is featured in the 2019 wrestling film Fighting With My Family alongside Dwayne Johnson, asserts that Logan has mastered the fundamentals.
“Whenever I train someone, we spend a great deal of time on the basics,” he says.
“The footprint of professional wrestling, which includes things such as your collisions, footwork, ring awareness, and ring skills, are what make you a well-rounded professional wrestler.
“If you look at world-class athletes like Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, and others like them, their fundamentals are what set them apart.
“Logan Paul has demonstrated that he has the necessary credentials. Yes, he can fly and he can win over the crowd, but he also has solid fundamentals, which is thrilling.”
Zak believes that the addition of Logan, a social media sensation, has brought new attention to WWE.
In professional wrestling,
“the sky is the limit for Logan Paul,” he asserts.
“He has every opportunity to become a professional wrestler, and perhaps even win championships.
I’d like to see him sign a long-term contract with WWE.
