The digital release of Billy Lockett’s album Abington Grove occurred in February, and it debuted at position 15 on the albums list in the UK.
According to a singer-songwriter who was given assistance by BBC Music Introducing, the success of his debut album has allowed him to realize his “childhood dream.”
The Northampton-born musician, who is now 31 years old and hails from Miss Missing You, has recently had tracks from the album featured on BBC Radio 2.
This past Friday saw the release of Abington Grove on both vinyl and CD.
Billy Lockett stated,
“I feel like I’ve almost achieved everything I wanted to with this,” and he was extremely pleased with himself.
I just wanted to make an album that I liked and for it to have some type of success, and it’s beyond all of my expectations. “I’m by no means the biggest musician around, and I don’t have any need to be. I just wanted to make an album that I loved. Anything else at this point is an added bonus.”
The street that Lockett grew up on is referenced in the title of his first album, which was recorded close to the center of Northampton.
In an interview with BBC Radio Northampton, a station that was one of the first to play his songs on the air, he remarked,
“It’s been my childhood dream to get to this point.”
“We released four singles and had no success; then we released Miss Missing You, and that went straight into the B List [the central playlist used by BBC Local Radio],” the band said.
“Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself has Done Even Better and is Playing on Every Station.”
Billy Lockett will kick out a 12-date tour of the United Kingdom this coming Wednesday. As part of Record Store Day on April 22, the band will perform at Spun Out record store in Northampton.
He remarked,
“It’s interesting how you get nothing, nothing, nothing for kind of ten years and then finally it just flies.”
“It’s strange, but it just seems so simple now,” the speaker said.
