A 16-year-old musician has released his debut recording after being discovered by a record label while busking. Alex Spencer began singing on the streets of Manchester’s downtown four years before Modern Sky approached him about signing a record contract.
In addition to signing The Coral, the label has propelled the careers of The Lathums, Jamie Webb, and Brooke Combe.
“It’s incredible. Alex said, “I feel like my hard work is paying off, and I’m taking the next step.”
The teenager from Droylsden decided to endure the rainy streets of Manchester while traveling with his parents through India and Thailand.
He had only recently begun playing the guitar when he was invited to perform at open mic evenings with other musicians.
“I became close friends with them, and they told me that they had been traveling the world while busking or performing at local venues,” he said.
When I returned to Manchester, I decided to give it a try because I was so intrigued by this.
His first experience with busking occurred in May 2019 with The Piccadilly Rats.
The self-taught musician who composes his own music stated,
“We performed roughly five songs for a massive crowd.”
This boosted my confidence, and I have been busking ever since.
Alex, who is also studying for his GCSEs next month, is promoting his new single, A Night To Waste, four years later.
He stated,
“It’s about having a good time with their friends and that none of us have a night to waste.”
When asked what advice he would give to aspiring musicians just beginning their careers, he replied,
“Keep going and do what you enjoy.
“Share your work on social media, make sure the video and audio are of high quality, and busk occasionally; you never know who will see you.”
