“Shirley noticed a bill from a medical facility in Houston. I pretended like it wasn’t a huge problem and attempted to brush it aside. I explained to her that I needed to check into the hospital for a relatively minor issue.
“Shirley wasn’t buying that for one very simple reason: the bill said the charges were for the birth of a baby girl, Paula Carlene, who was born to a Mrs. Connie Nelson.
“Shirley was curious about the identity of this mysterious Connie Nelson. Couldn’t lie. Was taken completely by surprise. I needed to remove those words from my mouth. ‘Connie’s my girlfriend and Paula’s our daughter.”
On October 27th, 1969, in the city of Houston, Connie gave birth to Amy Nelson’s older sister, Paula Nelson.
Later, in 1971, Willie got remarried and married his third wife, Koepke, and got a divorce from Shirley. The two former lovers got married and had a comfortable life together for several years. However, they were unable to maintain a long-term partnership, and in 1988, they got a divorce.
