The Springer family announced the heartbreaking news that the legendary radio host had died on April 27th, 2023. Jerry died peacefully at his home in suburban Chicago on Thursday, surrounded by family and friends, according to the statement. He was 79 years old at the time.
Jene Galvin, a family friend and spokesman, stated,
“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried, whether that was politics, broadcasting, or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” Jene Galvin, a lifelong friend and family spokesman, said. “He is irreplaceable, and his loss is heartbreaking, but memories of his intellect, heart, and sense of humor will live on.”
Furthermore, the statement revealed Jerry had been battling an unknown illness for a long time. Jerry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago, according to TMZ. Tragically, his cancer worsened in the week leading up to his death.

Springer, who has a daughter named Katie Springer, was well-known for hosting The Jerry Springer Show. His show was brash and daring, which is why it was also controversial. Jerry was a politician before becoming a radio host. In fact, he was Cincinnati’s 56th mayor. In 1977, he was elected to a single term. He previously ran a failed U.S. Congress campaign in 1970.
Following that, Jerry ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Party’s nomination for governor of Ohio in 1982. Jerry later decided to enter the television industry and began working as a political commentator for several television stations, including NBC affiliate WLWT. In 1991, after much success, he launched his own show, Jerry Springer. The show aired its final episode on September 10th, 2018, after running for over two decades.
