The name of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s first child has been disclosed nearly a year after his birth. RZA Athelston Mayers will turn one on May 13, and in his first 363 days, he has unquestionably lived a more relaxed existence than the majority of us ever will.
The Daily Mail obtained a copy of little RZA’s birth certificate, which not only reveals that he is named after Wu-Tang Clan member RZA and his father, whose middle name is also Athelston, but also that he is a Taurus with Leo ascending.
Cosmically speaking, it seems appropriate that this child is destined to be ambitious and hardworking and the center of attention in any room he enters.
Rocky’s legal first name is Rakim, in honor of the rapper Rakim; consequently, it appears that RZA’s name follows a patriarchal family tradition.
In 2019, Rakim told Hot 97 that he signed the diaper of a newborn named Rocky in Harlem after the baby’s mother spotted him and told him the baby’s name. “I recall that day because it was the first time I heard someone name their son after me,” he said.
Fans had previously speculated that Rihanna and Rocky’s son, who was last seen chilling out with his parents in New York City before their fashionably (very) late entrance to the Met Gala this month, was named Noah. Not quite!
Robert Fitzgerald Diggs is RZA’s given name. His legacy is impressive: In addition to producing the majority of Wu-Tang Clan’s albums, he is also the director of the martial arts film The Man with the Iron Fists, the author of modern ice cream truck jingles, and the patron saint of Staten Island, with a seedy movie theater serving as his temple.
As Rih and Rocky have not announced the due date of their second child (who, as a reminder, has already attended the Oscars, Super Bowl, and Met Gala in utero, with the Super Bowl serving as the pregnancy announcement), we will have to wait and see if they continue the namesake trend. Check back in, say, two to three years for the name of Child No. 2.
