But are they truly linked? Do they actually have the same ancestors? Decode the answer and some further information in the facts below.

Sergio and Anthony Pettis are they related?

Sergio and Anthony are related in some way. Sergio is six years younger than Anthony and the two are brothers. Not only that, but Sergio, like his older brother, is an MMA fighter who presently trains at the Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Sergio Pettis is the eldest of the Pettis brothers. They have three brothers in all, with the eldest being Reynaldo Pettis. Annette and Eugene Pettis raised the Pettis brothers. They are of Mexican descent.
Sergio, Anthony’s younger brother, is frequently congratulated and mentioned on his wins and special days. While Sergio acknowledges that he is in the spotlight because of his brother’s stardom and that he will always be Anthony’s little brother, he believes that he has also developed his own history.

Sergio Pettis and Anthony Pettis’s UFC Careers

Sergio, Anthony’s younger brother, began his pro-MMA fighting career in September 2011. Sergio had an 8-0 record before signing with the UFC in 2013. Two years and a few months after his brother Anthony’s first fight in the Zuffa-owned organization, the 1993-born made his UFC debut.

Following that, the younger Pettis fought in a total of 14 contests. At the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the BJJ black belt defeated the Portland, Oregon-born Tyson Nam in a unanimous decision at UFC 159. Except for Anthony, who has nine defeats to his brother’s five, both Pettis siblings have won 11 fights in the UFC. Sergio, on the other side, never won a belt in the UFC, but his brother was the UFC Lightweight champion once.

Sergio and his brother have also been on several UFC Fight Nights together.

Sergio and Anthony have both competed in UFC fights. In fact, the brothers have fought four times on the same UFC night. Despite the fact that the two had promised never to do so. They first became combatants when they were scheduled to compete on the same night at UFC 181 in December 2014. They both won their separate duels that night.

A few months later, at UFC 185, a similar incident occurred. This time, though, both brothers were defeated. Sergio and Anthony squared off for the third time on the same night at UFC 197 in April 2016. Only one person got to celebrate the victory that night, and it was the younger one. They last fought on the same night in October 2018 at UFC 229. Jussier Formiga and Tony Ferguson defeated the younger and older competitors in the event.

Sergio Pettis Left the UFC to compete in Bellator.

Sergio became a free agent after breaking relations with the UFC, as his older brother had done in December 2020.

Sergio then inked a multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA in October 2019. This was in contrast to his older brother, who now fights in the Professional Fighters League founded by Don Davis. Sergio began to defy detractors who had criticised him for his inability to finish after switching from the UFC to Bellator. Shortly after joining Bellator, the 5 foot 6 inch tall fighter declared that he has come to build a legacy for himself, build his name, and get his hands on some belts.

Sergio won his BMMA debut via guillotine choke over California-born Alfred Khashakyan in the opening round. In the main event of Bellator 242, the ex-UFC fighter faced New Jersey-born Ricky Bandejas in his second promotional bout. The younger Pettis triumphed due to his cool game plan. The result qualified him for a title fight against the winner of the other BMMA battle between Juan Archuleta and Patchy Mix, which the former won.

However, due to the global epidemic of 2020, the title match between Archuleta and Sergio could not take place. Regardless, it happened on May 7, 2021 at Bellator 258. Pettis dominated Archuleta in the bantamweight championship battle, winning by unanimous decision.

Prior to his battle against Archuleta, the former NAFC bantamweight champion discussed being linked to Anthony and forging his own identity in the shadow of his older brother.

I feel like I’ve created my own legacy. There’s still a lot of media that says I’m the little brother, which I am. I’ll always be Anthony’s little brother.

argued the fighter with 22 victories in an interview with MMA Mania.

Anthony Pettis earned $30,000 by placing a bet on his brother. Sergio

Not only is Anthony related to Sergio, but the elder has also profited from his younger sibling. In December 2021, Anthony won over $30,000 on a $10,000 wager that his brother, Sergio, would defeat Kyoji Horiguchi. The bout took place at Bellator 272.

The money line on Sergio winning the fight was +175 prior to the fight. When it came to betting, the youngest Pettis, who was defending his bantamweight title, was a huge underdog. The Phenom, on the other hand, won the match, adding a profit of $17,500 to his older brother’s $10,000, for a total return of $27,500.

The battle was not easy for the Bellator 272 winner. In the fourth round, the younger Pettis was behind on the scoreboard and appeared to be on the verge of losing his title. Pettis, on the other hand, broke the tie by knocking out Horiguchi in round four.
