Johan Petro’s professional basketball career began after he joined ElanBearnais Pau- Orthez. In 2005, he signed with the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Seattle SuperSonics, and later with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Petro was traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2009, but the deal was rejected, leaving him a free agent.
On August 27, 2009, he abruptly resigned. On July 10, 2010, Petro signed a three-year contract with the New Jersey Nets, and on July 11, 2013, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He agreed to a one-year deal with Zhejiang Guangsha but left in January 2014.
Johan signed with the French club Limoges CSP in February 2013, but he quickly left the squad and relocated to Florida to recover from his ailments. He also played for the French team that won the EuroBasket in 2013. After recovering from injuries, Petro joined Mets de Guaynabo of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional, but he was fired on 14 April 2015.
He signed with Leones se Ponce on February 2, 2016, and a year later, on February 24, 2017, he joined the NBA Developmental League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce. He was released by the club on March 23, 2017, and has since been a free agent. His professional success has paid off handsomely.
