He wed ballerina Marion Pola, and the two went on to have five kids. The Walls were interviewed by Tit-Bits magazine in the middle of the 1950s, and the article stated: “The kind of private jokes you find in all the nicest families flourish with the Walls.”
It seemed natural to expand into names beginning with “M” after Max and his wife, Marion, had their first son, Michael, and now there are Melvyn (aged nine), Martin (almost five), and the four-month-old twins Meredith and Maxine.
Like other wartime couples, the Walls were thrilled to find a home with four walls of their own, so they chose to call it simply “Four Walls” until Martin arrived and altered it to “Five Walls.”
