Cashay Henderson is at least the sixth transgender person to die in the US this year, according to the Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents blog. She is also the third Black transgender woman to die in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the last nine months.

As evidenced on her social media pages, Chicago native Cashay Henderson loves beauty, fashion, hip hop, and restaurants, according to PGH Lesbian Correspondents.
Over five years ago, she joined Sisters Helping Each Other Battle Adversity (SHEBA), a fortnightly gathering place for Black transgender women. The group mourned her when she passed away, stating that many of the members found inspiration in her and that she was also known as Gemini Shanti.
Henderson went to Regina “Mya” Allen’s funeral, a Black trans woman who died in Milwaukee in August 2022. A group of Wisconsin-based Black transgender leaders called the Black Rose Initiative also paid homage to Henderson on Facebook, calling her a beloved friend and influential member of their community.
As Henderson is the third Black transgender woman to die in Milwaukee in the last year, SHEBA voiced their sadness and worry over her passing. Diverse and Resilient, a Milwaukee-based LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, also paid tribute to Cashay Henderson in a Facebook post.
They characterized her as a beloved and respected member of the neighborhood. Veronica Beck, Henderson’s cousin, also established a GoFundMe to pay for her burial expenses. Henderson is described on the website as having a positive outlook on life and an honest, straightforward demeanor. She did not deserve to die suddenly, it is emphasized. Henderson was a transsexual lady with great inside and exterior beauty, which GoFundMe also recognizes.

Due to a fire at the front of the apartment building, Milwaukee Fire was summoned to the scene early on Sunday morning. Firefighters discovered a woman’s corpse who had been shot dead inside one of the flats after the inhabitants had been evacuated.

In a Facebook post lamenting Henderson’s passing, a Milwaukee organization referred to her as a “loved and valued member of our community.” Her death is being investigated by police as a murder, and they are looking for a suspect or suspects. Transgender people in the region endure threats, according to activist Roby of Milwaukee.
They stated that there is always a risk of violence, therefore they must constantly be on guard. Leaders of the LGBTQ+ community have remarked that they need greater support from the community and that such deaths amplify feelings of dread, uneasiness, and being singled out.
