Francis is the first pope from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from outside of Europe since Gregory III, a Syrian who ruled in the seventh century. Francis is also the first pope to be a member of the Society of Jesus.
Francis supports church teachings about women’s ordination, clerical celibacy, and abortion. But he did start a conversation about deaconesses and grant women full membership in the dicasteries of the Roman Curia.
He believes that the church ought to be more accepting and inclusive of LGBT individuals. Francis has made no secret of his disapproval of capitalism without limits, overdevelopment, materialism, and free-market economics.
He favors taking action against climate change, which is a major issue of his pontificate, with the adoption of Laudato Si.
Conservative theologians have criticized him on a number of occasions, but most notably for what some believe to be his suggestion in Amoris Laetitia’s footnote that divorced and remarried Catholics be allowed to participate in the Eucharist.
How did Pope Francis fare?
The response to the question “What Happened To Pope Francis” is that he is physically fit but emotionally distraught because he succeeded Pope Benedict, who passed away on December 31, 2022.
The former Pope Benedict XVI went away at the age of 95, just over ten years after resigning due to failing health.
Francis became the first pope to step down since Gregory XII in 1415 after serving as pope for less than eight years.

Benedict spent his final years in the Mater Ecclesiae monastery inside the Vatican and passed away on Saturday at 09:34 (08:34 GMT).
On January 5, Pope Francis, his successor, will preside over the funeral. For “the welcoming of the faithful,” the body of Pope Emeritus will be placed in St. Peter’s Basilica starting on January 2.
Bells from Munich’s church and one bell from St. Peter’s Square in Rome sounded out in response to the news of the previous Pope’s passing.
As a result, Pope Francis is in excellent health and the question of “What Happened To Pope Francis” can be answered in the affirmative.
Issues With Pope Benedict XVI’s Health
On July 17, 2009, while on vacation in the Alps, Benedict fell and broke his right wrist; despite his mild injuries, he was rushed to the hospital.
The Vatican revealed that Benedict had a pacemaker put in while he was still a cardinal before becoming Pope in 2005 after Benedict’s retirement was made public.
He made his decision regardless of the fact that the pacemaker’s battery had been changed three months earlier during a routine operation.
Pope Francis completed his audience on December 28, 2022, and prayed to God to “comfort him and support him in this testimony of love for the church until the death,” claiming that Benedict was “extremely ill.”
He claimed that after his audience, Francis went to the Mater Ecclesiae convent, where Benedict was.
In his Vatican apartment, Benedict died on December 31, 2022, at 9:34 AM CET. He was 95 years old.
Beginning on January 2, 2023, his remains will lie in state at St. Peter’s Basilica. On January 5, 2023, at 9:30 in St. Peter’s Square, he will be laid to rest.
