Michael Palin’s wife was Helen Gibbins. While on vacation in Southwold, Suffolk, Palin met Helen Gibbins; the couple wed in 1966.

Helen Palin, the spouse of Michael Palin, passed suddenly a few weeks after the pair marked their 57th wedding anniversary.
Helen, his beloved wife, passed away quietly early on Tuesday morning, according to a statement Palin made on his website.
She had been in excruciating pain for years, which had gotten worse a couple of years before the discovery of renal failure.
He explained how the two first met: “They first met on a summer vacation on the Suffolk coast when they were both sixteen and married in the early twenties. This was more than 60 years ago.
Two and a half weeks ago, we recently commemorated our 57th wedding anniversary.
Palin’s first date with his wife occurred in 1959; he subsequently romanticized it for his television drama East of Ipswich, which was based on his youth beach holidays.
Palin spoke with the Telegraph about his wife’s sickness when she entered respite care last year.
I don’t think you can cure it, he replied, but they would help her manage it. It’s boring. Her intellect was always so active, and it still is.
The adventurer and host has also been open about his health issues in recent years, including having heart surgery in 2019.
His heart attack served as a reminder that his body wasn’t invincible and that he needed to know when to stop and restart if he wanted to maintain it that way.
