Ababu was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports, and the Arts by President William Ruto. He completed his law studies in Kenya and Washington, D.C. He has been the head of the Kenyan Labour Party since 2016. Ababu was also the most recent Chief Administrative Officer of the Republic of Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Namwamba was first elected as a member of the Orange Democratic Movement’s constituency in Kenya’s National Assembly at the country’s 2007 legislative elections.
From 2008 to 2013, he was the ODM’s Parliamentary Secretary, and from 2012 to 2013, he was the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, until the ODM lost its majority in the 2013 election.
Namwamba stepped down as ODM’s secretary general in 2016. He thought that Raila Odinga, the party’s leader, could no longer win over followers. He joined the newly resurrected Kenyan Labour Party and has been its leader since September 2016. The Labour Party indicated in March 2017 that it will support Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidential ambition in the August 2017 election. Namwamba lost his Budalang’i seat in the campaign.
